Another Trip

My friend Eileen is driving myself, son Vinny and friend Susan to visit Pastor Jeff Arthur’s Elizabeth Baptist Church this week-end.

We are so excited to meet the pastor and his church family in Bancroft, West Virginia. We have been listening to all of Pastor Jeff’s sermons on www.sermonaudio.com for some time now and have learned so much.

Just today I found www.christianexcavator.com which is a link on the www.ghtg.org of Elizabeth Baptist Church site.

Many great quotes and helps are found on this site and I love it!!  Really makes one think about our daily walk with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and how we are to conduct ourselves on a daily basis.  All things ARE possble with our God!!

Home Again

What a great time I had at the LIFT Retreat.  The food was excellent and I am not ashamed to say that I was spoiled thoroughly.

Of course, I am just now feeling completely recovered.  Even though I was only away for 3 days the trips take more out of me than they used to.  Probably from all that food I ate.

In telling “My Story” in approximately 45 minutes all seemed to go well.  I don’t know why but the ladies laughed quite often during my talk.  Well,  when telling about the life of a single mother with 5 children you need a good sense of humor.  I guess that is what came through.

I can tell you that much prayer went into this talk and I actually told the Lord that unless He spoke through me I would not say one word.  I believe He did just that and I am so thankful to Him and His faithfulness.

It was fun to meet so many ladies from Riverdale Baptist.  They are a very special group of people!!

Retreat

I am looking forward to the Ladies’ Inspirational Fellowship Time (L.I.F.T.) of Riverdale Baptist Church in Ocean City, Md. My youngest son Tony is the Minister of Music at that church.  Registration is tomorrow  from 6-6:30 PM.

I am really excited to be attending these meetings. They have asked that I give my testimony for the ladies of Tony’s church. They know about Vinny but they don’t know my life story.

I will probably be the oldest woman there so I will have a lot of years to cover in 45 minutes.

Most of the choir members are already friends of mine because I have gone to some of the choir retreats. I am really happy that I will be meeting many more members of the church.

It feels different not to have Vinny on my arm since he is totally blind from birth and almost always with me. He is staying at his sister’s which is his favorite thing to do besides EAT.

Thoughts From Vinny

While I was at the Boston Nursery for Blind Babies I never talked. I did not even talk before I went there. Mom, you wrote me that letter one time about hearing the song YELLOW BIRD and I cried because I missed home so much so they told you never to write again.

When I was about 8 I decided one day that I really should say something. Then the people from the center told me that I was going home for good. I was so happy about going home that I REALLY started talking.

The main reason I was so happy was because I could have all my favorite foods to eat.

When I started to carry on conversations with the staff they said, “Why Vinny, you can certainly talk well and you know really big words!” I didn’t care about the talking; I only cared about getting home again.

Now you tell me that I talk all the time. I guess I just can’t stop.

Walking with Vinny

Vinny and I walk every day on the boardwalk in Ventnor where we live. This takes from ½ hour to 1 hour according to my stamina. Vinny never gets tired and would literally walk for hours if I could keep up.
The main reason he wants to walk is so that he can eat more food. That is his one and only love. My mother used to say, “Aw that’s all he has!” Well, the problem is he is now 55 and gains weight easily and his health is affected. So, he is on a diet all the time which really keeps him fairly trim.
I found out just recently that Vinny is walking sometimes for 3 hours inside his apartment. I told him that was so great but how in the world can he be that disciplined – O yes, he wants THE FOOD.
The other day I went down the hall to his apartment to put something in there and he was standing in the kitchen holding his huge stuffed dog and when I asked him what he was doing he said, “Taking my dog for a walk.”
From the time we start out on these walks he talks. HE NEVER STOPS TALKING THE WHOLE TIME WE ARE OUT. These conversations revolve around what he will have to eat when he gets home. I used to get so aggravated that I would threaten to just go back home and just start cooking. Sometimes I am more patient and try not to listen but he catches me so I have to be careful.
His other conversations are about EVERYTHING that has happened to him as far back as he can remember, in other words, his whole life story. Because of his autism he can remember everything. He knows dates and times of everything that ever happened around him.
One time we were in a doctor’s office in Turnersville, NJ when we lived there. The doctor happened to be one that 30 years earlier had sought to by my father’s office practice. When Vinny heard the doctor’s name he said, “Didn’t you try to buy Dr. Leonard’s practice?” The doctor was shocked and I said, “Ask him what he had for dinner the day you were there,” and of course he told him. Vinny is an amazing person.
There are more stories I will tell about at another time.

VINNY’S BIRTHDAY

54 year old….napping @ beach.

Vinny had a great birthday.  It lasted for 3 days and he is having a ball.  Most of his requests revolve around eating and since he only has this once a year he is taking full advantage.  He has been to the Crab Trap for seafood, is going to the Whitehouse for cheese steak sub, got an ice cream cake and is getting chocolate candy.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, VINNY

COMFORT

IF YOU’VE KNELT BESIDE THE RUBBLE OF AN ACHING BROKEN HEART,
WHEN THINGS YOU GAVE YOUR LIFE TO FELL APART.

YOU’RE NOT THE FIRST TO BE ACQUAINTED WITH SORROW GRIEF OR PAIN,
BUT THE MASTER PROMISED SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN.

TO INVEST YOUR SEED OF TRUST IN GOD IN MOUNTAINS YOU CAN’T MOVE, YOU HAVE RISKED YOUR LIFE ON THINGS YOU CANNOT PROVE.

BUT TO GIVE THE THINGS YOU CANNOT KEEP FOR WHAT YOU CANNOT LOSE, IS THE WAY TO FIND THE JOY GOD HAS FOR YOU.

HOLD ON MY CHILD JOY COMES IN THE MORNING. WEEPING ONLY LASTS FOR THE NIGHT.

HOLD ON MY CHILD JOY COMES IN THE MORNING.

THE DARKEST HOUR MEANS DAWN IS JUST IN SIGHT.
